Celia came into her much-in-demand career almost by accident, having worked in the property industry and seeing firsthand, how a cluttered home could negatively impact upon its success on the market and price achieved and the experience for those living in it.

Of all the rooms in a house, the ones that she is asked to help declutter most frequently, are kitchens, bedrooms and studies. Kitchens are usually a haven of excess tupperware, pots/pans and unused appliances. It’s generally the heart of the house so it’s a balance of providing a welcoming and practical space, but one that can be navigated quickly and efficiently.
She often finds bedrooms to be more cluttered than calm which can negatively effect sleep quality and advises against under-bed storage wherever possible!
The study is often a room in the house that lacks systems enabling paperwork to be filed correctly and efficiently, causing piles of papers to build-up and become overwhelming.
Celia’s 3 Top Tips
“If you find the thought of the process overwhelming, start small. Dedicate 20 minutes a day to de-cluttering one area of your house, be it a mantle piece, cutlery drawer or your shoe collection. If you make a commitment to doing this each day, you will be amazed at the difference it can make over a week”
“Don’t begin with the sentimental items. These are always the most difficult items to sort through, so start with something simpler – the bathroom cupboard for example. Once you are in the de-cluttering mindset, it is easier to objectively assess items which are more sentimental”
“De-clutter first, buy second. There is a temptation to rush out and buy lots of storage products before you start de-cluttering, but try and resist! Only once you have had a thorough de-clutter, can you assess how much additional storage you need to purchase (if any)! Clients are often surprised at how much space is generated simply by careful re-organisation”.
