For over two and a half thousand years, the nomadic peoples of the remote and beautiful Tien Shan Mountains in Central Asia have created hand-made wool felt rugs to line their tents.
Founded and headed by Tim Moock, Felt is the first company to source and import these rugs and the collections include a broad range of pattern and colour combinations, which incorporate ancient symbols that describe life in the Mountains of Heaven. Sheep, goats, deer and camels feature alongside flowers, trees, eagles, streams and dreams!
Shyrdaks, as they are called are hand-made in the mountains of Kyrgyzstan, as they have been for many centuries using time honoured methods, and stitched together with hand spun twine.
Shyrdaks can be used on walls or floors, and work equally well in both contemporary and traditional settings. They are available as runners, rounds and room size and come in many different colours and patterns. They can also be made to special commission. Prices typically range from £165 for a small bedside runner to £2,000 for a 2m x 3m room-sized rug.
In addition to rugs of all shapes and sizes, Felt are now also designing sofa and floor cushions; and have recently been commissioned by well-known US interior designer Robin Henry to produce chair covers as the centerpiece for their design entry in the 24th annual ‘Rooms With A View’ design event in Southport, CT.

A permanent stock of rugs and cushions is available to view at Felt’s London showroom by appointment. Bespoke pieces are delivered within three months or sooner.
