Ali Robinson is an architect, a designer and a maker of beautiful furniture that captures his combined passions for design, art and sport. At Decorex 2018 Ali launched his collection of furniture, Kynance, to much acclaim
“It has taken three years from drawing board to its launch at Decorex – the most fun I’ve had in years!!”, says Ali
The aim was to design a varied set of objects that share a feeling of playfulness, elegance and simplicity. He is particularly proud to be working with some special craftsmen and sees their collaboration as key to the ongoing development of his furniture
We first met Ali Robinson some years ago, and have always respected his work as an Architect. He is a quintessentially English designer and has excelled in a number of related creative areas, each flowing through and overlapping the other
Ali studied Fine Art at The Ruskin and predominately made paintings before taking up a number of artist-in-residency posts where his work developed into performance, installation-based sculpture and video
In 1997 he co-founded One For The Road and won the Millennium Product Award from the Design Council for the redesign of the Honda monkey bike
In 2001 he co-founded Robinson van Noort, the well-established architectural and interior design practice, heading up the design of all the bespoke furniture and joinery, as well as working on a number of architectural projects
Ali has played sport to National level, becoming World Rackets Doubles Champion in 2005 and his new Collection, Kynance, reflects his interest in how sport can be a powerful metaphor and prepare us for all sorts of challenges.
