Did you know that prostate cancer is now a bigger killer than breast cancer and that men wait four times longer to be diagnosed with it, than women do?
Neither did we, until last week when recent research was published. As a building company, we employ a lot of men, and therefore this is a subject close to our hearts. In fact, Prostate Cancer UK is our main charity and we try to help and promote it whenever possible.
The organisations new precision medicine research programme aims to tailor treatments based on the genetic make-up of a man’s prostate cancer. These results could extend the lives of more than 9,000 with an advanced case, every year. One man dies of prostate cancer every 45 minutes in this country. This is because men are living much longer and the population is growing.
From state-of-the-art mpMRI scans to earlier chemotherapy, we have invested millions into research over the past decade to improve diagnosis and create better and more individual treatment. Through high profile campaigns, along with training and information drives, we have raised awareness of the disease hugely among men and healthcare professionals.
Please speak to your GP about prostate cancer, and spread the word among your fathers and sons, brothers, nephews, friends and colleagues. Early detection, among other issues, is vital and can make the difference between life and death.
