Curiousa & Curiousa design and manufacture hand blown glass lighting from their Derbyshire workshops and also have a showroom in Chelsea, London.
Any Shape, any size, they have a large and stunning collection of glass pendants, chandeliers, sculptural stacks, bathroom, living room, table and wall lights.
And if you’re looking for something very personal, they’ll sketch up 2D or 3D drawings and, as they free blow their glass (no moulds) you can have whatever you want as long as it can fit into the furnace!
There are 23 delicious looking colours of glass. Sweets and cocktails come to mind! And a range of different fittings finishes, flex and bulb options.
Esther Patterson, their designer and founder, has a real passion for all things British made and for true craftsmanship. She launched Curiousa & Curiousa only 8 years ago and, almost immediately, her collection was snapped up by Liberty’s of London. Today it’s an architect and interior designers ‘go to’ and the company exports orders and commissions all over the world.
Initially, Esther graduated in fabric and wallpaper design as well as slip cast bone china lamps, and her first workshop was a caravan in her family’s drive! It wasn’t until she was given the opportunity to work with a glass blower, that she found her greatest passion. “I just loved the jewel like quality of the hand blown glass. He was blowing the shapes I’d designed but they came alive with the most beautiful colours”
The company has recently launched a new collection, UME, which is a slight diversion from their signature glass pendant lights, but true to Esther’s design principles and integrity. A return to her first love, this is a collection of lamps, printed onto Dupion Silk, and are inspired from her own collection of paintings, from the series ‘Garden is Sanctuary’ and ‘Stoney Wood’. UME can be commissioned in much larger sizes than the glass pieces and the juxtaposition of the two ranges work wonderfully together as they reflect light in different ways.
